Plant Workshops:
Greetings Avid Birders and Dragonhunters,
I have put together a schedule for the
During 2010, we will focus our bird surveys on fall and
winter months, rather than summer months. This will
allow us to collect data on migratory birds and
overwintering species.
We will focus our dragonfly surveys on the period when
dragonflies are most likely to be abundant, in the spring,
summer and early fall. I also avoided July so the
survey does not conflict with any of the annual butterfly
surveys.
Except for January and September, all of the survey dates
fall on the first Saturday of the month. In January
and September when the first Saturday conflicts with the New
Year’s and Labor Day holidays, the survey has been scheduled
for the 2nd Saturday. Listed
below are the dates for each survey in 2010. I thought
you might want to put these dates on your new calendar. Bird
Survey –
March 6th, September 11th (2nd
Saturday), and November 6th
Dragonfly Survey – April 3rd, June 5th,
August 7th, and October 2nd I sure
hope you' all will be able to join us for these surveys!!
And I hope you have a wonderful holiday season!!! Be
safe and thank you’all so much for all of your help during
this past year!!! Pam

| TUESDAY
MORNING RESIDENTIAL HORTICULTURE CLINIC We are happy to inform you of the Tuesday morning residential horticulture clinics at the Mid-Florida Research & Education Center (MREC). Please stop by with your plant problem or soil for testing between the hours of 9:00 am and 12:00 noon. Here are some suggestions that will help you bring the best sample: |
|
![]() |
1. Please bring
about a pint of soil for testing taken from the surface to
six inches deep. 2. Plant samples should be representative of the problem and where possible include several leaves or even a whole branch. 3. We are also happy to look at bugs, which are best transported in a bottle. 4. Sod for examination should include a square foot of turf two inches thick cut from the border of a good and bad area. |
| During clinic hours a University of Florida
trained Master Gardener will respond to your concerns.
Otherwise the results will be sent promptly in the mail. The
center is located at the MREC, 2725 Binion Rd., Apopka, FL
