Q: What happened to the old FOLA
website?
A: After many years of publishing a beautiful site, created with
Adobe Dreamweaver by our longtime FOLA friend Mike Malloy, it was
lost without a current backup when our web host account unexpectedly
expired. Some data was republished from an old backup, but the menu
structure was unfinished, and Mike requested someone else take over.
As Webmaster for the Oakland Nature Preserve, I reluctantly
agreed, knowing only very basic web skills using Microsoft Front
Page. That's like stepping out of a pickup truck and climbing into
the cab of an 18 wheeler. Everything was so different, I was
totally lost. I tried recreating the site in FrontPage, then went
back and tried again to work with Dreamweaver, but there was too
much in the site I just didn't understand.
Then along came Microsoft with this whole new program,
Expression Web, an 18 wheeler that did things my way! And there you
have it. I will continue to expand this new site, and will keep a
link to the old site in Archives for any determined "data miners"
until I have moved everything over.
